New Life

NEW LIFE

It is so fitting that Easter comes in the spring.  The Earth is waking up from its winter slumber with new buds and blossoms.  What a perfect parallel to the new life we can have in Christ Jesus, all because of His death, burial and resurrection.  With Christ’s death on the cross we were granted a new start, a do-over.  Just as Jesus left behind his sorrows and pains associated with the crucifixion and was raised to a new life.   We have the same opportunity to leave behind the pain and defeat of the past and embrace a new beginning.  The amazing thing about this new start is the fact that it is a free gift.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. — Ephesians 2:8,9

For the Christian, Easter and the resurrection of Christ is what anchors our belief system.  When Jesus rose from the dead he exemplified power over every force of the devil.  We must remember that Jesus was not murdered on the cross.  He laid down his life willingly.  He set aside his power for in order to submit to pay the price for our sins.  Before Jesus went to the cross he said,

No one can take my life from me.  I sacrifice it voluntarily.  For I have the authority to lay it down whenI want to and also to take it up again.  For this is what my Father has commanded.   – John 10:18

Through the resurrection Jesus defeated every enemy past, present and future.  Now we, by our own faith in what Jesus accomplished through his resurrection, can have victory over every enemy in our lives. New life belongs to you and me.  Happy Easter!
